Image Systems announces software update for Golden Eye III Film Scanner

London, UK, 5 July 2011 – Image Systems, formerly known as Digital Vision, has today announced a software update to its Golden Eye III film scanner, which was unveiled at NAB earlier this year. The new software provides customers with a package that includes a Golden Eye scanner control program and internal scanner software upgrades.

GOLDEN EYE III is a high speed and high-resolution 2K or 4K film scanner for motion picture film. The scanner handles negative, print and intermediate in all major film formats: 16/35/70 as well as 8mm. The high performance makes the scanner the perfect tool for DI, archiving and restoration.

New features include:

Image overlays - The Golden Eye now has a digital telecine feature that allows text and metadata to be attached to images:

• Time code (per frame)
• Decoded KeyKode (per frame)
• Frame counter (per frame)
• Attributes (operator, date, time, scanner, project, customer etc)
• Custom text

Image cache with preview - To increase the workflow speed of DI or restoration projects Golden Eye can cache images during overview with the new Image Cache option. The cached images can be used for detecting punch hole and scene changes without the need to navigate back and forth through the film, which is important when handling fragile material. Each clip can be easily identified as a thumbnail in the EDL and can be viewed from the cache instead of running the film through the scanner. Primary grading can also be carried out on the cached images. The grade can then be stored with the clip and applied on the images when the EDL is executed on the scanner. This function provides quick, simple and very gentle handling of any film.

Enhanced colour management - Separation of RGB balances, lowlights, mid-tones and highlight levels have been added to enable primary grading on the Golden Eye III scanner. This new software release means that it’s now possible to adjust levels and balances one luminance interval at a time.

Video SDI/HD output (optional) – Users now have the option to output to a reference video monitor for exact colour representation.

Tangent Wave panel integration (optional) - Wave Panel integration has been included for quick primary grading using the GE 3.3 colour management.
