York University post production students get hands on with Nucoda Film Master

London, UK, 6th June 2011 – Image Systems, formerly known as Digital Vision, has today announced that the University of York (UK) has installed a Nucoda Film Master system. It forms the heart of the University’s DI suite in the post production wing of its new Department of Theatre, Film and Television building. The system provides students with experience working on a high-end industry grading system allowing them to be fully prepared prior to entering the workplace.

The Nucoda Film Master will be integrated into the curriculum for the MA in Post Production with specialisation in Visual Effects and the MA in Film and Television Production degree programmes. In both instances it will be used for final grading on both P2-based HD projects as well as Red Digital Cinema 4K projects, mastered to DCP. As part of these courses students will create and grade a range of title and action sequence exercises as well as short films. The University is also organising specialist one-day workshops to cover the specifics of Nucoda Film Master.

John Mateer, Senior Lecturer and Head of Film and Television Production at York explains, “Nucoda is recognised as a premier picture grading system and has been used extensively on top programmes worldwide. Our department is unique as we have a requirement to engage with the industry. As a result it is imperative that all of our facilities are industry standard. Nucoda was a natural choice.”

He adds, “Nucoda has an amazing reputation as a top tool to create quality imagery. We spoke with many high-end manufacturers and discussed our unique requirements.  We were delighted when Image Systems recognised our needs. They worked very closely with us to enable us to buy the system and we greatly appreciate their support. It has allowed us to provide a first class learning environment for our students.”
